Thing 15 - Library 2.0 - What does it mean?
After reading all the materials, I connected the most with the final article by Dr. Wendy Schultz who spoke about people.
We all need to live a "first-life" first. Human beings inhabit physical space. As a librarian, I get to see many examples of human interaction. It has showed me that we all have a lot of work to do.
Web 2.0, Library 2.0, Life 2.0 is where we need to be. We also need to be with customers who will never be there. We shouldn't demand that everyone get on the virtual, digital bandwagon. We are all unique and have different needs. Uniqueness and diversity are good!
Our jobs first and foremost are to be "present" in the real sense. To Listen, to care and help people in their journey to a better life. What I'm hearing is that customers need people who care, a space that is comfortable, equipment that works, services that people want, a place where they can learn, discover new things and meet "real" people. People still need a place to "pee" as well as a place that has the latest "Wii".
If one thing is for sure, people want someone who will listen to them. Let's make sure we keep doing that in whatever "point-0h" we are in at the time.
